FAQ
Your Questions, Our Answers
Before starting a painting project, the same questions come up regularly. We have gathered them here to save you time and help you make an informed decision.
What is the best time of year to have the exterior of my building painted?
Spring and early autumn are ideal for exterior painting in Quebec — temperatures between 10°C and 25°C, low humidity. Below 5°C, most acrylic paints no longer adhere properly. Planning early also ensures better contractor availability.
Can you paint outside in the summer despite the heat?
Yes, but with precautions. Above 27–30°C, paint dries too quickly: bubbles, visible streaks, poor adhesion. Working early in the morning or late afternoon, in the shade, reduces these risks. Contact us to assess conditions based on your project.
Must a painting contractor hold an RBQ licence in Quebec?
Yes. In Quebec, all painting contractors must hold an RBQ licence (subcategory 9.0 — finishing work). You can verify the validity of a licence in the RBQ's online registry. Métropole Peinture holds RBQ licence 5801-2279-01.
Why is it important to choose a contractor that is an APCHQ member or CCQ-affiliated?
The APCHQ brings together professionals committed to upholding the quality standards of the residential sector. The CCQ oversees training and labour relations in the construction industry in Quebec. These affiliations indicate that a contractor operates within industry rules. Métropole Peinture holds both.
Why is surface preparation just as important as the paint itself?
It is the leading cause of paint that peels or flakes off prematurely. Scraping, degreasing, caulking, and priming condition adhesion and the durability of the result. For both our exterior and interior painting work, preparation is always included.
Do you protect floors and furniture during interior work?
It is the leading cause of paint that peels or flakes off prematurely. Scraping, degreasing, caulking, and priming condition adhesion and the durability of the result. For both our exterior and interior painting work, preparation is always included.
What is limewash paint and what projects is it recommended for?
Limewash paint is a traditional technique using slaked lime that produces a matte, slightly textured, breathable finish. It is particularly well-suited to older buildings and surfaces made of stone or concrete. Its natural and distinctive look is making it increasingly popular in high-end residential renovation.
What is MEWP certification and why does it matter for work at height?
MEWP stands for mobile elevated work platform — commonly known as an aerial lift. In Quebec, operating one on a job site requires a specific health and safety certification. A contractor without certification cannot legally use one. Métropole Peinture is MEWP-certified for its commercial and industrial job sites.
